One of the most loved desserts in indonesian street food is sweet martabak.
For those of you who are not indonesian, what is sweet martabak? Sweet martabak is a cake made from flour dough and given a variety of toppings. One of the culinary that should not be missed if you visit indonesia.
According to the various sources the origin of sweet martabak is from the bangka belitung islands, which was created by chinese hakka people (客家人), the original name of the sweet martabak is “Hok Lo Pan” which means cake from the Hok Lo people (hakka nation) 客家人蛋糕。
The first time this sweet martabak was created only with sesame as a topping, now various kinds of toppings are created, cheese, chocolate, peanut chocolate, ovomaltine, oreo, bannana,etc. and the dough is also various, there is some dough will added with a pandan flavor, there is some dough they made it smaller called mini martabak , and some are made with thinner dough like crepes , but all the basic dough remains the same.
Almost in every corner of pangkal pinang , the capital of the bangka belitung island there are sweet martabak sellers.as time goes by this sweet martabak is getting more and more popular , and people start sell it outside the island, now become a snack that most people are looking for.
Im also a fan of sweet martabak, there are a lots of sweet martabak sellers in jakarta, one of the places i often eat sweet martabak is martabak bangka akim.
